  Web Guide

Below are this month's tips from Your Baby Today. Tips appear daily on the Your Baby Today home page.

  • On a plane, pregnant women should stretch often to prevent blood clots in their legs.
  • Avoid using pillows and blankets in a newborn's crib, they could suffocate the baby.
  • Pregnant women need extra calcium. One way to get it is to take calcium-rich antacids like Tums.
  • This sample tip is just a placeholder because previous tips did not have a title. Please remove this tip and insert a new one with a title to be displayed on the home page.
  • If you're trying to get pregnant, skip the hot tub because you could catch a vaginal infection which could cause problems with early labor if untreated.
  • A brisk walk is a safe and effective way to stay in shape while pregnant.
  • If you're pregnant, sleep on your left side to give your baby access to better blood flow.
  • Pamper yourself with a new outfit to lift your spirits while pregnant.
  • Sleeping on your side with a pillow between your legs helps prevent back pain during pregnancy.
  • Bring a few extra plug covers and other items to make sure your baby will be safe when staying in a hotel.
  • Movement may ease colic, so place baby in a swing.
  • If you're having trouble getting pregnant, ask your doctor to check your thyroid level.
  • Trade coupons for baby products that you don't use with other moms who have coupons and rebates for products that you do use.
  • Remember to plug electrical outlets to keep curious little fingers safe.
  • For diaper rash, it is better to use plain water and cotton balls than wipes which can dry skin and worsen the diaper rash.
  • When decorating your baby's room, choose latex over oil-based paint, which has toxic fumes.
  • To trim a baby's nails, first soften them with a bath. Then use a nail file or safe baby clippers.
  • At six months, babies start teething. If it's preventing your child from falling asleep, try a topical pain reliever from the drugstore.
  • If your home was built before 1977, ask a trained professional to check for lead paint.
  • Sunglasses should be worn from infancy, especially in high altitudes and very sunny climates.
  • During pregnancy, say "yes" to: vitamins, exercise, and eating healthy. Say "no" to alcohol, smoking, drugs.
  • Keep your pet's nails trimmed so your child won't accidentally be injured.
  • Move plants with trailing vines to a higher spot before your baby arrives.
  • Don't feed your baby honey -- it can cause health problems.
  • Consider inviting a professional photographer to the hospital when your child is born.
  • A well breastfed baby will have between 6-8 wet diapers a day.
  • Avoid baby clothes with drawstrings -- they could be dangerous.
  • Use cup hooks to wind up vertical blind cords, which pose a strangulation hazard to a curious baby.
  • To encourage a lifelong habit, read to your baby often.
  • To avoid heartburn, wait two hours after eating before you exercise.
