OB/GYN: Roy Pitkin, M.D.I was admitted to the hospital with a severe kidney infection and dehydration. I am 12 weeks pregnant and am concerned that the antibiotics I am taking are too strong. Will they affect my baby?By Roy Pitkin, M.D.I don't know what antibiotics you are taking, but none that I can imagine being used for kidney infection have any known complications for the baby. In fact, the danger here, both for you and your baby, is your own state of health. You were quite ill with a kidney infection and dehydration, severe enough to require hospitalization. I'll bet you had a high fever, too. This severe illness poses a serious threat to your baby (as well as to yourself), and it sounds as though you got the best treatment for both of you.
