Diet & Nutrition: Linda Hsieh

I'm a vegetarian and would like to give my child soy milk rather than cow's milk. Will I be depriving her of certain vitamins and minerals?

By Linda Hsieh

Iron-fortified infant formula, both cow- and soy-milk-based, provide adequate nutrition to support normal growth and development. However, after your child turns 1, you may be considering regular soy milk. Nutritionally, not all soy milks are the same. Check the label to be sure that the brand of soy milk you're using has been fortified with calcium and vitamin D.
