GOODNIGHT MAX
Author: Rosemary Wells
Publisher/Manufacturer: Viking
Books about bedtime can become a soothing part of your child's bedtime ritual. As the character settles down, so does your baby. If you read such a book often enough, your baby will soon associate it with "time for bed." This latest offering by Rosemary Wells is a sturdy board book about toddler-rabbit Max. His sister, Ruby, is trying to tuck him in, but first must supply four pajama changes, a drink of water for Max's red rubber elephant. . . you know the drill. For children older than six months but younger than one, this book has clear, simple pictures and is a great book to "talk through"---"See Max in his birthday cake pajamas? Max will NOT fall asleep . . ." and so forth. The book also has a special feature for the other ones, 14 "touch and feel surprises" including terry cloth pajamas, a lacy curtain, and a fishnet fly swatter. And this is a "grow with me" book. Once your child's a little older, he'll delight in the plot, as Max is too tickly, too scared, too silly to go to sleep . . . and then finally says, "Goodnight."
