That's why you shouldn't leave home without the fold-up Gateway to Go pressure-mounted safety gate. The 4.5 pound gate, made of mesh with steel bars, is surprisingly lightweight. The gate pressure mounts to a doorway with non-skid, non-marking pads. It fits doorways 28" to 36" wide and is 29" high. There's also a pressure gauge indicator that lets you know whether the gate is secure enough. When you're ready to go, simply release the gate (only one hand is necessary), fold up the Gateway, and pack it in its convenient carrying case.
