HERE COMES TABBY CATAuthor: Phyllis RootPublisher/Manufacturer: Candlewick PressInterestingly enough, many books that are designed for new readers are also entirely appropriate for very small babies. That's because they have a few simple words per page and go all out to be attractive and not to overwhelm. Here Comes Tabby Cat, part of Candlewick's Brand New Readers program, also has only one or two bold, simple images per page, which is what children under one require to enjoy looking at a book. Actually, Here Comes Tabby Cat is four very short books, printed on heavy paper stock and slipped into a cardboard case. Each covers the adventures of a young boy named Sammy and a bright orange, scruffy cat. The booklet, "Where Is Tabby Cat" will be an instant favorite with young babies, because you can talk them through the story, "Where is that cat? Is he under the chair?" The other enjoyable stories include "Tabby Cat at Night," "Mouse Hunt," and "Tabby Cat's Scarf." Once your baby is sixth months old or so, part of the fun will be pulling the books out of the sleeve and cramming them back in---and that also helps refine sorting and fine motor skills. One other plus: the price is right. The whole set is ideal to carry around, chew on, and even tear up a bit. See next Product Review in this category
