Your Baby Today

OB/GYN: Roy Pitkin, M.D.

I have been using lotion for a skin condition during my pregnancy. It contains Vitamin A. Will this harm my baby?

By Roy Pitkin, M.D.

Although high doses of vitamin A can cause fetal malformations, the amount you would absorb through the skin is very low and well within safe levels. Therefore, you need not be concerned that the use of skin lotions and creams of this type will increase the risk of harm to your baby.

Roy Pitkin, M.D.
