Linda G. Hsieh is a practicing registered dietitian with over six years experience in clinical practice. Focusing on prenatal and pediatric nutrition, she has worked as a nutrition educator for over nine years.

Q: My son is 10 months old and refuses to eat any meat. He likes fruits and vegetables. Is that okay?

A: If your 10-month-old is consuming an adequate amount of breast milk or iron fortified formula, you need not worry that he is not getting adequate nutrition. Meat provides an excellent source of protein, iron, and B vitamins. However, breast milk and iron fortified formulas when complemented with other solid foods (iron fortified cereal, vegetables and fruits) can provide the nutrition your baby needs. But don't give up....Continue to offer different meats later on. It's not unusual for babies to be picky at this age.
