Pediatric Nutrition: William J. Klish
My son is 4 months old and we started him on baby food last week. He eats well and seems to like it, but has been spitting up more than when he was just on formula. Is this normal? Is his system just adjusting?
By William Klish, M.D.
Spitting is influenced by many factors such as position of the baby, volume of feeding, speed of feeding, and composition of the feeding mixture. It is very common for babies to spit more after their feeding has been changed, either by adding solids or changing the type of formula fed. This is nothing to worry about, particularly if there are no other symptoms.
